A Heartbreaking Moment at an Outreach Visit
Happy tears flowed when a little girl was reunited with her best friend.
During a recent outreach run by the Cluny Animal Trust, the team witnessed a moment that moved everyone to tears. It began when a volunteer named Rozelle heard the sound of sobbing. A young girl, Didibe, was heartbroken because she believed her beloved dog Blacky was being taken away for good.
Blacky had been booked in for sterilisation, a simple, routine procedure meant to protect his health. But to a child, seeing her dog placed in a cage looked like a final goodbye. No amount of gentle explanation could convince her otherwise. Her father apologised to the team and took her home, still crying.

A Child’s First Best Friend
For children, animals are often their first best friends. Dogs become playmates, protectors, and teachers of unconditional love. Through them, kids learn compassion, trust, and responsibility.
And for Didibe, Blacky was far more than “just a dog”. He was family.
The Moment Everything Changed
Later that afternoon, when it was time to fetch Blacky after the procedure, everything shifted.
The moment she saw him, Didibe sprinted forward with all the strength her little legs could muster. She rushed past the team opening his cage, tears streaming again, this time from pure relief.
She wrapped her arms around Blacky and smothered him with kisses. Blacky nuzzled her back, offering licks and tail wags in return. The Cluny team, despite years of outreach work across many communities, said they had never witnessed a moment quite so emotional.
“Rozelle was in tears and so were most of the team. The love she has for her dog is something they say they have never seen at any outreach, ever, and that says a lot,”, they shared.
A Happy Ending for a Loyal Dog and His Girl
Thanks to the outreach, supported by The Edgard & Cooper Foundation, Blacky received the care he needed, and Didibe received the reunion she feared she had lost forever.
A little girl’s tears turned to joy, and everyone present was reminded why this work matters so deeply.
