Scott’s Unexpected Role as Secret Santa in Pflugerville

A few weeks ago, I shared a message from a woman in Texas named Becci—one filled with hope, challenges, and a mother’s love. What she sent touched many hearts. Today, she’s back with an update so full of kindness and inspiration that I felt compelled to share every detail.

How It All Began

Becci’s son, Scott, was involved in a serious car accident when he was 18. The impact left him with a traumatic head injury, and his life changed in ways he never anticipated. Now, Scott lives in a communal home with five other men facing their own trials.

In that shared space, nothing is truly private. He and another resident share a room, a closet, and even a single dresser. There’s little room for extras. Gifts like clothes are unnecessary (he already gets those), toiletries are provided, and snacks are restricted. For a mother who wants to express love through a gift, it’s a tough puzzle to solve.

In years past, Becci had given him “experience boxes” — things like tickets, outings, or ideas for ways to make memories over time. But having used that idea already, she needed something new this year — something meaningful and doable even within constraints.

A Gift of Giving

The idea came softly, almost unexpectedly: What if instead of receiving, Scott could give? She collected some $20 bills, thoughtful cards, and materials to let Scott choose who to bless. Together, mother and son would plan gifts—not for him, but for others.

In Becci’s words, “He has a giving heart and is a blessing to everyone he meets.” So she guided him: pick someone, something they need, and follow through. She didn’t orchestrate every detail—she let Scott lead in his own way.

The Update That Changed Everything

A little while ago, Becci sent a message updating how things went—and it’s precisely the kind of story that restores your faith in ordinary miracles. This is what she shared:

Scott, now dubbed their little Secret Santa in Pflugerville, has completed his rounds of giving. Among the acts of kindness:

  • He donated diapers and baby wipes to a struggling new mother who was in desperate need.
  • He assembled and gave birthday cake bundles to a local food bank. He wanted to honor the memory of a friend’s grandson who loved birthdays but passed too soon.
  • He brought toys to a Bulldog rescue, choosing items with care and affection.

Scott spent hours choosing, shopping, and deliberating—even buying baby wipes with him took five hours! What struck Becci most was how alive he became through the process. It stirred something in their community, too.

As a result:

  • Becci has volunteered at the local food bank alongside him.
  • Her daughter began creating her own birthday cake bundles.
  • Friends and neighbors have joined in, turning one simple act of kindness into a budding tradition.

Becci says she doesn’t know how far this ripple will spread. But she believes it will be far.

Reflections on Generosity & Heart

Sometimes we underestimate small gestures—because they feel modest. But consider this:

  • Empowerment through choice: Letting Scott pick where to give allowed him dignity, voice, and connection.
  • Community as catalyst: One act inspired others to join—volunteers, friends, neighbors.
  • Tradition over time: A single year’s idea has the potential to become a repeating legacy.

It doesn’t matter how much you have. Even in scarcity, generosity lives. It’s not about grand sums—it’s about the heart behind giving.

So thank you, Scott, for showing us that kindness can be a gift we give through someone—even when resources are limited. And thank you, Becci, for letting us witness what love in action can become.

Let this be a reminder: Wherever you are, whatever you have, you can be a Secret Santa too—not for one season, but every day.
